How to Apply Tax
Learn how our default tax system works and how you can apply it to your listings.
When you sell on BNSBids you might need to charge taxes on your sales, and then report and remit those taxes to your government.
We have pre-setup many default sales tax rates for each country/state, these taxes can be applied to your local country/state you post in and can apply to international countries/states you ship to.
Sellers can use our tax system to automatically handle the most common sales taxes, the tax is automatically calculated with the total sale price pair item sale.
BNSBids doesn’t collect, file, or remit your sales taxes for you, we recommend registering with an accountant to help pay your taxes.
Sellers also have the option to override our tax rate within each sales invoice, this will allow you to address any specific tax in any destination country/state.
If you would like us to add a specific tax option, please contact us with the following:
- The Tax Rate you would like us to add.
- Include the URL to the Tax Authority website - to allow us to verify.
How to Apply Local Tax Options:
If you are required to charge local tax you can use our default tax rates for your local country/state.
To apply tax to your local country/state you will need to ”Enable Tax on Listings” on your Global Settings page, then you will see “Tax Type” appear. Select your local country/state tax types that will be applied to your listings.
For example: if you only offer domestic postage within your local country/state simply select your country/state and our default tax will apply.
Reminder; before you can apply and charge your buyers tax you must be tax registered and include this tax number in each listing. Learn more here.
If Shipping Internationally:
If you ship internationally and you are required to charge tax (Import Tax) then you must include these international countries/states in your Tax Type list on your Global Settings page. Simply Select the tax types for your international country/state shipping locations. When you have selected the international country/state tax types in your Global Settings page, you will need to set up your postage options on your “Postage Setup” page, select all the international countries/states you ship to and the selected tax type in your Global Settings page will apply.
Example: If you selected United States Tax Type in your —Global Settings —page you must select the United States in your Postage Setup page to apply the United States tax.
Reminder; before you can apply tax internationally and charge your buyers tax you maybe required to register in each country/state. Learn more here.
Note; in order to see the tax rate you need to be logged into an account that has an address based in the tax country and will therefore be liable to pay the tax.
Only buyers with an account address based in that country/state you applied the tax to will see the tax and will therefore be liable to pay the tax.
For example; if you apply a United States tax for an item, only registered users in the united states will see the tax rate. All registered users must be logged in to see any tax rate.
All items will still be viewable globally, just the taxes will only be viewable to those countries/states to which you applied tax.
We will be making changes (if not already done) to show the tax regardless of the viewers/buyer location, we will update you on this soon.
If you are shipping to other countries/states and there is a sales tax in that countries/states, then you must use a tax agent to help with your tax obligations in the destination countries you ship to.
Check with a local tax authority or a tax accountant to make sure that you charge the correct sales tax rates.
